The Benefits of using exfoliators, scrubs and face masks

The Benefits of using exfoliators, scrubs and face masks

It is beneficial to use masks or scrubs once or twice a week in addition to your daily skin care routine. Using an exfoliator helps to remove dead skin and promote regeneration of new skin cells, stimulate your skin for a healthy glow, and even out skin texture.

We have some absolutely fantastic ready made organic exfoliators and masks, or ideas of how you can make your own scrubs and masks from ingredients in your kitchen. Keep reading to find out more below...

What Benefits Will Exfoliating Have?

1. Unclogs pores.

If you are prone to oily, or greasy skin, it's easy for pores to get "blocked" and cause more issues. Exfoliating helps by removing dirt and impurities which helps prevent blackheads, whiteheads, blemishes and acne.

2. Shine control!

Again, if you're prone to oily, or greasy skin, exfoliating removes excess oil which causes shiny skin. You don't want to over-do the exfoliation as this can lead to more sebum production and can aggravate your skin.

Pick an exfoliant that has a mint essential oil in; peppermint oil is fantastic for regulating oily, acne-prone skin. It  is rich in anti bacterial properties and contains a natural form of salicylic acid, which help to prevent acne. It also contains high amounts of vitamin A, which is great for regulating sebum production - leaving clearer, smoother skin.

We'd recommend Lavera's Pure Beauty 3in1 Wash, Scrub and Mask as the perfect product for this.

3. Leaves skin softer and smoother.

If you're in search of even skin texture and tone, exfoliation is the way to go. You don't need to over-do it; in fact if you are too vigorous when exfoliating, this can aggravate your skin.

Using a natural exfoliant will already have some "rougher" particles in which help to slough off old skin; you don't need to use a firm pressure when doing it. Whichever product you choose, ensure to exfoliate gently; and massage in circles, starting from your cheeks.

4. Gives a fresh-faced complexion!

Exfoliants are the first thing you should try if you're looking to brighten up your complexion and get a brighter, more youthful looking glow to your skin.

Exfoliating helps stimulate skin cells and promote regeneration; so making sure to exfoliate regularly helps with a more radiant glow. We'd recommend using an exfoliant rich in Vitamin C - such as an Amla face scrub

5. Reviving For Dry, Dehydrated Skin

If you struggle with dry skin (or patches of dry skin!) or skin that is dehydrated, exfoliation helps to remove dead, dry skin cells. This helps not only to get rid of unsightly patches of dead skin, but to help "lock in" moisture and hydration to the skin.

Make sure to use a very gentle exfoliant; oat based exfoliants are probably the best way to go as these are very soft, and not rough on skin, especially if it is already aggravated. Odylique's Honey & Oat Bar is fantastic for this purpose as the addition of honey helps to moisturise the skin.

6. Use A Moisturising Mask For Extra Moisture

Exfoliants can only really go so far to helping skin; if you have dry skin, dehydrated skin, or mature skin, you'll need to use a moisturising mask to nurture it as well as exfoliating. The Lavera Basis Sensitive Mask is a very gentle, sensitive mask with aloe vera and jojoba oils.

7. Lastly, Exfoliants Are Great For Mature Skins!

If you have mature skin, exfoliants are key for giving you a gorgeous complexion, and slowing signs of ageing. Regular exfoliation removes dead skin cells which boosts the skins natural renewal capabilities, leaving you with a more even, fresh faced complexion.

Odylique's 3in1 Maca Mask is a gentle mineral clay mask, that helps to purify skin and also has organic oats and sugar cane to refine and polish skin. Maca itself is revitalising and rejuvenating for the skin.
