Rajasthani henna is renowned for its superb quality.

This henna is from Sojat, Rajasthan, in India which has an excellent desert climate for henna growing, producing excellent quality henna powder for hair colouring. Rajasthan is often referred to as "The Henna Capital of the World!" Because this henna is also Soil Association Certified it makes it doubly high quality. Take a look at our customer reviews at the bottom of this page - you can read multiple in depth reviews of our henna powder hair colouring products.

This henna is suitable for hair colouring. Henna will generally give brown hair red/brown undertones. Henna will give light coloured hair (grey, white, or blonde) a more orange/red tone. Click the link for Rajasthani Body Art henna.

Combining henna powder with Indigo to get a reddish-brown, brown, or black shade.

Using henna with indigo can create a range of shades from reddish brown to black. The resulting colour depends on the method you use, how long you leave the paste on for, and the proportion of henna and indigo you use. Click the link for our Certified Organic Indigo.

There are two ways of using henna with indigo:

Method 1 (double application): First, dye your hair with henna so it goes auburn/red. Next, dye your hair with indigo, and the red will turn to brown. To achieve the desired shade, you need to both get the right amount of indigo and leave the indigo on for the right amount of time. The longer the indigo is left on your hair, the darker it will be. If you leave it on the maximum time, it can go black.

Method 2 (single application): Soak the henna overnight. In the morning, when you are ready to dye your hair, mix the indigo with water. Thoroughly mix the henna mixture together with the indigo mixture. To get a more red-brown shade use a larger percentage of henna. To get a darker brown, use a larger proportion of indigo. To get a black shade use method 1.

Everyone's hair is different and will take the colour differently so trial and error may be necessary to get the desired shade.

How much henna powder do you need for your hair?

The following quantities are for average hair - if you have fine hair, you will need less, or if you have thick hair, you will need more:

  • short / chin length hair - 50 gms henna
  • shoulder length hair - 100 gms henna
  • mid back length hair - 200gms henna

Natural brown with tints and highlights, I love Suvarna products.

I’ve been using this henna now for a number of years. It’s excellent. Yes, it’s orange on grey/white hair and if you don’t want orange, you have to tone it down with Indigo which is what I do. I just mix up approx 200ml, using maybe 3 or 4 tblspns of the henna powder with lemon juice. Roughly2 lemons, maybe 2 and a half. Mix to a yoghurt consistency, leave to develop overnight at room temperature and apply to my roots when I have a free 3 hours the next day! Yes, it’s time consuming but so worth it once the grey vanishes. I always put a barrier cream around my ears and forehead first. And I apply the henna with a toothbrush. Once I’ve washed it out, I mix up some indigo with hot water to a paste, add more water as needed. Then work really quickly, watching the clock. Again, just the roots will be fine. Plastic bag or old shower cap on top. From first stroke to washing out, I give 18mins. Even if I stretch to 20 mins, it could end up being too dark. And less than 18 will be still too orange. So you have to find what suits your hair best. I have thick soft hair, about shoulder length. My hair seems to absorb the colour easily. I get a nice mid brown every time. But you do have to experiment, I find. Eventually the all over colour has copper and brassy highlights, strands of varying colour, because I only ever do the roots. I like the end result of different tints and natural looking shades. My hairdresser always comments how professional the colour looks and so natural. And when you think of it- no chemicals, all organic plant based so you’re not putting your immune system under any strain coping with the regular chemical doses. I have to colour every month so I’m saving a bomb doing it myself at home. Yes, it’s a faff with the 2 applications, washing out between. But my hair looks just great all the time. Thanks, Suvarna!

It was a lifesaver!! Thank you Suvarna

This is my genuine review. After lockdown, I started getting allergies whenever I dyed my hair. I bought loads of expensive hair colours thinking they’d work, but every ‘no-chemical’ and ‘organic’ product I tried still caused reactions . I was so fed up. I was almost ready to embrace grey hair for life! Then I stumbled upon Suvarna Organic Mehendi. I was sceptical at first, but decided to give it a go… and WOW !! It was like finding a diamond in the rough! No allergy, no itchiness – easy to mix, easy to apply, and it WORKED . Thanks, Suvarna, for saving me from hair-stress hell . It was a lifesaver!!!”

Beautiful henna

I absolutely love this henna. I've been using henna for years. I'm a natural redhead so wanted to keep it red for as long as I could...I'm 60 now.
I make a pack up with cooled boiled water, leave it overnight in a glass bowl then cover my hair in the morning..being careful around my hairline. I leave it on for 2 hours then shower it off using my usual shampoo and conditioner. It will probably last me around 3 weeks now before my white roots start showing. This is by far the best place to buy quality henna in my opinion and I will continue buying it from here as long as I can. It's also a great conditioner for my hair. The colour is amazing and changes due to different lighting. Very happy customer😁

Certified Organic Henna Powder For Hair works & looks good

I’ve been using Certified Organic Henna Powder For Hair for a few years now & I love the colour. I’ve had many compliments on the shade. I have sensitive skin/ scalp & use this without any issues. I have had to be careful with the products I use in my hair but I now have a better understanding & I am happy to use Certified Organic Henna Powder.
