Gentle Care For Delicate Hair: What You Need To Know

Hair that is fine, thin, or prone to flyaways and breakage, can be difficult to care for without weighing it down and losing volume or finding it a bit of a frizzy mess!

Using natural hair care methods you can find a much gentler routine that works better for you, promoting life and volume and tackling the "static" effect that can happen when your hair is feeling a little drier. Read on to learn more...

1.  Choose A Scalp Stimulating Shampoo

Picking the right shampoo is absolutely vital to aiding volume and thickness in your hair. Using a shampoo that is too harsh might help hair that often feels "weighed down", but it will strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it prone to that static, flyaway effect.

Choose a natural Rosemary based shampoo instead. Rosemary is a wonder for fine hair, as it helps stimulate the scalp, promoting healthy hair growth and volume.

Odylique's Reviving Rosemary Shampoo works well here, and has the added ingredients of Rice Water and Seaweed,. which help promote strength in the hair follicle.

Follow it up with their Rosemary Conditioner - if you often find conditioner "too heavy", you can just use a little through the lengths, rather than root to tip. To really lock in hydration, rinse out with cold water!

2. Add In An Ayurvedic Treatment

Use an organic ayurvedic hair mask, once or twice a month, to help strengthen your hair.

If your hair is just naturally fine; it's not prone to breakage or particularly fragile; then using a Cassia hair treatment will do wonders for you. Cassia is known as colourless Henna, giving the natural volumizing properties of Henna without colouring!

You can mix it just with water if you prefer, but if you want to add some additional ingredients, you could try a spoonful of apple cider vinegar for shine; and add in a drop or two (but no more!) of Rosemary or Mint essential oil for additional scalp boosting properties.

If your hair is becoming thinner, or you're finding this is a shift due to age or hormonal changes, instead use a Bhringaraj mask. Bhringaraj is renowned for aiding with age-related hair woes, such as greying and hair fall, and helps to strengthen and nourish the hair.

Instead of simply mixing with water, mix with natural yoghurt, to help with thickness and volume in the hair - this will also have an added moisturising benefit!

3. Use Natural Hair Styling Tools

The Golden Rule with hair styling, especially for those with mid length or longer fine hair, is to never use a hair elastic or too tight ponytail holder.

The consistent use of these will pull and fray individual hair strands - leaving hair feeling more flyaway and fine! If you’re also a little guilty of scraping hair back into a ponytail, or wearing “tight” hairstyles, this can exacerbate any thinning you might notice on your scalp.

Swap to a natural hair tie with no elastic; the natural fibres will be gentle on your hair, and you can tie the band a lot more loosely, preventing too much pressure or snagging.

The hairbrush you use can also affect your hair condition; plastic bristles can create static and flyaways, which is especially common for people with finer hair types.

Instead. use a natural bristle brush that won’t cause friction; natural fibres won't work against your hair strands.
