Five Natural Makeup Trends You Need for the New Season

As each new season descends it’s a great chance to take stock of your makeup and skincare regime and tweak anything that isn’t serving you.

As we move into Autumn, we enjoy the last of our summer glow, but also get to take advantage of richer new season colours that we might avoid in earlier months.

There are also some key natural makeup trends coming through that are great to try out if you’re stuck in a bit of a makeup rut.

It might feel a little nerve wracking to try something new, but remember – the best thing about makeup, is if you get it wrong, it washes off and you can try again!

Natural makeup trend 1:

Statement Lips:

For a couple of years nude lips have been everywhere, but this season sees a major return to richer, deeper tones.  Think Odylique’s Blackberry Smoothie as the perfect reference – rich and super flattering.

For this to work, you want a creamier lipstick with longevity.  Prep lips with a scrub and a liner, then fill with three coats, blotting between each.

If you’re not sure about a full statement tone, pat your lipstick onto lips then follow up with a natural gloss or balm for shine.  You can also try a natural tinted gloss like Benecos Pink Blossom.

Natural makeup trend 2:

Negative Space Eyes:

This look is the perfect way to have fun with colour or shimmer without going too ‘full on’.  The way to take advantage is to coat your eyelid with a lighter, nude shade.

Then, dampen a liner or detail brush, pick up your deeper colour and follow the line of the eyelid, a mm or two above, from the inner socket to the outer edge.

It’s a fun, youthful look but works on all edges.  We love Benecos gold palette for autumn tones, or Odyliques ‘lagoon’ for an impactful blue that especially suits darker skin tones.

Natural makeup trend 3:

Glowing ‘Natural’ Skin

Following a few years where contouring, heavy foundations and layers of makeup have been pushed as ‘necessary’ at all age groups, it’s lovely to see ‘real’ skin making a comeback.

This look is all about letting texture show, so even if your skin isn’t ‘flawless’ (which doesn’t exist) it’s a good choice.

Simply apply concealer on any areas of challenge, sweep a peach toned blush, in an upwards direction from the apples of the cheek to the temples and apply a light, matt highlighter to the tip of the nose, the chin, the centre of the forehead and the cupids bow.

Choose one that isn’t ‘glittery’, a light sparkle or even completely matt is perfect.

Natural makeup trend 4:

A return to shapely eyebrows…

This isn’t quite ‘noughties’ super-thin brows, but after years of bushy brows, the look is much more defined.

You can achieve it by firstly, brushing the brows in the opposite direction to growth.  Use a brow pencil to create tiny strokes to fill in the brow in an arch shape, not going past the end of the outer corner of the eye.

Set in place with a natural eyebrow gel, which adds fullness and hold.

Natural makeup trend 5:

Pastel beauty…

As we move into winter, you might want to try the pastel beauty trend seen rising in popularity, especially on mid-life makeup lovers.

Don’t go the route of all over pastels, it’s a little too much. Instead, try a flash of pale blue or green mineral shadow on your lids (even just a line can look really flattering).

OR pretty pink lips, OR fresh cheeks.  But not all three at once.
