Dull skin is frustrating - you might be cleansing, toning and moisturising but feel like you’re still missing that glowing, fresh faced feeling you’re hoping for.
Sometimes we lose our skin’s natural glow despite our best efforts, leading to grey spots, paleness, or even discolouration. This tends to happen especially during the winter months; a lack of vitamin D, regular outdoor walks and bad weather can take its toll, not only on our mental health but on our skin, too.
As we’re stepping into spring, we’ve come up with some really easy ways to get glowing skin, so you can look as radiant as you feel!
1. Hydration is key
First things first, to get glowing skin, hydration is of utmost importance. Making sure to drink enough water each day and eating foods that have a high water content - like cucumber, watermelon, grapefruit or celery - helps to give you that fresh, dewy complexion you’re hoping for.
When you’re choosing a cleanser, the most important thing is to find a cleanser that is rich in hydrating ingredients - like the Odylique Creamy Coconut Cleanser. Made with pure coconut oils, rose water and eucalyptus oil, it will gently cleanse while hydrating your face.
2. Make Sure To Exfoliate Gently
Exfoliation is important to reviving tired skin and achieving glowing skin.
But don’t over-exfoliate - once a week is enough! If you’re new to starting a skincare routine, or are noticing a lot of dull, dead or flaky skin, exfoliating more often might seem to give quicker results - but it may actually have an adverse effect. Over exfoliating can lead to redness, soreness or dryness of skin (which is exactly what you’re trying to avoid!).
Pick a gentle exfoliant rich in vitamin C - the It’s Pure Amla Powder is fantastic for this. Amla is made from the ground up indian goose-berry, which is a powerful antioxidant.
Mix a small amount (roughly 30g) with water into a paste, and gently massage into your skin as a face scrub. Make sure the paste is thick enough it can be used as a scrub but not so thick it is difficult to apply - a good rule of thumb is to make it the consistency of greek yoghurt!
3) Don’t forget to moisturise!
Moisturising is key to glowing skin; it helps top up your skin’s natural moisturising layer, which promotes smooth-looking skin. Again, looking for a moisturiser rich in nourishing ingredients is critical - for example coconut oil, rose water and aloe are all skin-friendly nutrient-rich ingredients for achieving glowing skin.
The Odylique Timeless Rose Moisturiser is what we would recommend - it is good to use for every skin type, and is very gently nourishing for the skin. With extracts of rosehip and sea buckthorn, it helps to smooth out skin, giving it a softer appearance.
4) Use Serums Rich In Fruit Oils
The absolute best thing to give your skin a fresh-faced glow is to increase your use of vitamin C - not just in your diet, but also in your skin-care routine.
Vitamin C is most readily found in things like citrus fruits, and berries, so
if you’re not sure where to start, look for products high in fruit-based (rather than flower-based) essential oils.
The Odylique Superfruit Concentrate is perfect for this, as it is enriched with pomegranate, rosehip and avocado oils. Use it both in morning and at night, after applying your moisturiser - it helps to ensure both products absorb better into your skin!
A small amount really goes a long way, so you’ll only need a couple of drops to cover your whole face.
5) Use Make-Up That Hydrates Your Skin
If you’re looking to get glowing skin, you might notice that once you apply foundation or concealer (particularly if you’re using a powder!) that your dewy complexion suddenly looks a bit matte, or dull.
Some make-up can be drying on your skin or settle into wrinkles and fine lines; or even can look a bit, well, flat! Use a foundation that works with your skin’s natural texture and tone to get a gorgeous, glowing complexion. If you have naturally dry, dehydrated skin, use a cream based foundation that actively moisturises while giving you great coverage. For more oily, or “normal” skin types, a liquid foundation works better. Odylique’s range of foundations offer both liquid or cream texture, and are made from organic oils and plant butters, so won’t dry out skin or settle into fine lines.
To add a little more shimmer to your make-up routine and really bring out a dewy glow, you could also try adding a shimmery primer underneath your foundation - or use a shimmery cream as a stand alone over your moisturiser. Lavera’s Glow Hydrating Fluid is a highly pigmented skin fluid that can work either as a shimmery primer underneath your foundation, or on its own as an additional hydrating fluid with a light pink shimmer.
